Islam and Islamic culture in Russia and Eurasia

The Foundation holds research projects on studying history, modern status of Islam and Muslim societies in Russia and CIS.  Hence, ideological, political, social and cultural aspects of social and cultural trends and forms of Islam in Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Volga-Ural region, Middle Asia and Azerbaidjan, where Islam is traditionally prevailing, are focuses of interest and study.

In these regions the confessional and ethnic identity is determinative for political self-identification and expression of political and social will and is also a key mechanism of deliberate political, cultural and spiritual transformation in these societies.  Thus, a related major range of complex issues is the problems of self-consciousness in Muslim communities during the 19-21 centuries.

Special focus of our activities is publication of historical sources, archival data and other documents and files on the history of Islam in the Russian Empire.

All the results are published by the Mardjani Publishing House in “Islam v Rossii I Evrazii” (Islam in Russia and Eurasia) series.
